Build it and they will come...
Hollow Acres Golf Center has been a family-operated/-oriented business from the beginning. Garnette and Marilyn Smith constructed Hollow Acres in the summer of 1959 and opened for business in July of 1960 near the small town of Yeoman, Indiana on 30 acres of land owned by Marilyn's father, Ross Holloway (thus the name). People said they were crazy for building a golf course so far away from the bigger towns. Assisted by their son, Jeff, and daughter, Susie, they perservered and made it a successful family business. Who could have predicted then the landmark status it would later achieve?
John and Judy O'Neil began helping to manage the facility in 1979 and later purchased it in 1986. They are still operating it today along with the help of their son, Jon, and his wife, Heather, and their son, Reed. Today, 48 years later, people are still coming to Hollow Acres GC to get reacquainted with the barstool they sat on as a kid, enjoy some golf, sip on old-fashioned hand-dipped milkshakes and share with their kids (and grandchildren) a piece of their childhood that still exists. Good times and great memories are still being made here.
Hollow Acres continues to grow and improve with every season. We hope that you'll come and see us soon. We look forward to meeting you!
